CALVARY Old town STORY

In 1956, Paul and Ruth Smith came to Victorville with a simple calling — to pastor a small church and share the hope of Jesus.

Thirty years later, that same call stirred again. On October 21, 1984, Calvary Chapel Community Church was born — beginning with about twenty friends meeting above a paint store on 7th Street downtown Victorville. By May of 1985, God opened the door for something more permanent. The small congregation purchased 2.3 acres next to Center Street Park and transformed an abandoned school building into a place of worship. In February 1989, we broke ground on a new sanctuary — and on Easter Sunday, April 15, 1990, we celebrated our first service together in that new building. Pastor Paul Smith faithfully led the church until 2004, when his assistant, Pastor Chris DuPont, stepped in as Senior Pastor. Pastor Chris served the Lord faithfully until his retirement in 2016, when Pastor Gary Malkus, Jr. was called to lead the fellowship.Today, we stand in a season of New Beginnings. Our church has a new name — Calvary Old Town — but our foundation remains the same: a steadfast commitment to teaching God’s Word and living out His love.

Our heart is to shine the light of Jesus in the darkness of Old Town Victorville, bringing hope, truth, and grace to the heart of our city.

This is our story — a story of faith, of God’s faithfulness, and of a church that continues to grow in His grace.

Welcome to Calvary Old Town.

OUR senior PASTOR

PASTOR GARY MALKUS JR.

"Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your loving kindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord. Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. For Your name's sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great."
  - Psalm 25:6-11

CALVARY old town STORY

Paul and Ruth Smith came to Victorville to pastor a small church in 1956. Thirty years later, God again called them to pastor a church. Calvary Chapel Community Church began with about twenty friends meeting on October 21, 1984 above a paint store on 7th street in downtown Victorville. In May of 1985, the congregation purchased the 2.3 acres next to Center Street Park and converted an abandoned school building into a place of worship. In February 1989, we broke ground for a new sanctuary and Christian Education facility. We celebrated our first service in the new sanctuary on Easter Sunday morning, April 15, 1990. Pastor Paul Smith was the faithful pastor of the church until 2004, where his assistant Pastor Chris DuPont took over as Senior Pastor. Pastor Chris served the Lord in this capacity until he retired in February 2016. Pastor Gary Malkus, Jr. then was brought on as Senior Pastor. The Church is in a time of New Beginnings, yet we hold on to our strong history of teaching God's Word. We look forward to what God has in store for us, while not forgetting our rich history and foundation.
