The goal of the worship ministry is simple. It is to worship Jesus alongside the body here at Calvary Old Town. Our desire is not to put on a concert or a show, but to raise up an offering of praise to our Lord. As a worship team, we are bound by the scriptures in regards to what type of praise we can offer. Jesus said this to the woman at the well:
John 4:24
"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Our worship must be led by the Spirit, and it must be grounded in the truth of His Word. We cannot spend time singing songs where Jesus is not the center, nor can we sing about who we think God is. The scriptures are clear on who our God is. We meet hours before each service and we spend time in The Word and prayer - for one another, and for the body. We long for Jesus to be the center of our ministry at all times. Now of course, worship does not and should not end when the music does. We as believers ought to worship Christ with every aspect of our lives. Serving the body is worship. Reading The Word is worship. Aligning your life to Jesus is worship. The list goes on. Everyone who walks through the front doors here at Calvary Old Town is welcomed and encouraged to present an offering of worship to Jesus.
I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2
